The International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy (ICCLR) and the Alma Mater Society’s Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) will be hosting a symposium on June 2nd, 2017 in Vancouver. The aim of this event is to empower survivors, students, faculty, administrators, policy-makers and community members to connect and learn key lessons for growth and development in the areas of sexual violence prevention and response on post-secondary institutions. Additional key points of discussion will include adjudication and reporting practices, impactful education to create culture change and building resilience by supporting survivors of violence using a trauma-informed lens.

On December 9, Transparency International Canada will hold its most significant event of 2016. The Vancouver “Day of Dialogue” will be held from 8 am to 2 pm, at the offices of Dentons Canada LLP at 250 Howe St. This event will mark the formal release of a new TI Canada report on the topic of transparency of beneficial ownership of companies and trusts in Canada.

ICCLR will be bringing together experts in law and law enforcement, provincial and municipal governance, academia, professional and private sector compliance, and investigative journalism. The conference will include presentations on reducing the risks of corruption, transnational money laundering, and organized crime in Canada with particular attention to large urban centers in British Columbia.

This conference builds upon two earlier events co-hosted by the ICCLR, AMS SASC, and EVA BC: The Inter-University Conversation on Sexual Assault Prevention conference (April 2015) and The Power of Our Collective Voices Pre-Conference Symposium (May 30, 2016). In the two-day event, we intend to provide tools to better respond to campus sexual violence, and inform and discuss the development and implementation of post-secondary policies, protocols, prevention strategies, and community collaboration, while providing a safe space to understand and incorporate the lived experience of survivors.

Experts from across B.C. presented this first of a series of professional development days, for local government related professionals, on issues relating to conflict of interest, fraud and corruption. Topics included legal standards and issues, fraud detection methods, risk mitigation techniques, tools and response mechanisms, ethical behaviour from a practitioner's perspective and information on how to scale operations for community growth and significant projects. 
 

Symposium: Mental Health in the Criminal Justice System

The ICCLR was pleased to host this one-day complimentary symposium in collaboration with the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law (ISRCL) and the Vancouver Police Department (VPD). The symposium provided an opportunity to deliberate some of the challenges and successes of addressing mental illness within the justice system from the perspective of a variety of professionals and participating agencies.
